65 Agrifood Startups Selected to Shape the Future of European Food Innovation

Europe's agrifood innovation ecosystem has taken another significant step forward as EIT Food announced the 65 startups selected for the 2026 Food Accelerator Network (FAN).
Representing one of the programme's most diverse and technology-driven cohorts to date, these companies will join a pan-European acceleration initiative designed to help breakthrough innovations move from promising concepts to scalable commercial solutions.
As climate change, resource scarcity, food security, and supply chain resilience continue to challenge the global food system, programmes that bridge entrepreneurship, research, industry, and investment are becoming increasingly important.
The latest EIT Food Accelerator Network reflects this shift by focusing not only on innovation itself, but on validating technologies that can deliver measurable impact across the agrifood value chain.

Now in its ninth edition, the Food Accelerator Network has already supported more than 500 startups across Europe. Many of its alumni have successfully raised Series A and Series B funding, entered international markets, and established partnerships with leading food and agriculture companies. The 2026 cohort builds on this legacy with startups developing solutions in digital agriculture, biotechnology, circular food systems, sustainable supply chains, and climate-resilient farming.
One of the programme's defining characteristics is its specialised structure. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all accelerator, EIT Food has organised six dedicated innovation hubs across Europe, each addressing a strategic area of agrifood transformation.
The hubs focus on water-smart agrifood systems, circular solutions, smart and low-carbon supply chains, biotech ingredients and processes, digital and autonomous farming, and future-resilient agriculture.
This thematic approach allows startups to receive highly targeted technical support while working alongside researchers, corporate partners, investors, and technology experts with deep sector knowledge. Throughout the programme, participants will develop customised technology roadmaps, validate their innovations through real-world applications, and improve their technology readiness before entering the market.
Technology validation has become a critical success factor for agrifood startups.
Unlike many software ventures, innovations in agriculture and food production often require extensive scientific testing, regulatory compliance, field trials, and industrial-scale validation before commercial deployment. EIT Food's accelerator is designed to address these challenges by connecting founders with research organisations and providing opportunities to demonstrate their technologies in operational environments.
Collaboration with industry also plays a central role. Participating startups will engage directly with major international companies through matchmaking activities, reverse-pitching sessions, and open innovation challenges. Corporate partners—including organisations such as Bayer, Cargill, Danone, Mars, Mondelēz International, Corteva Catalyst and Valio—will present real business challenges, enabling startups to develop solutions that respond directly to market needs rather than hypothetical scenarios.
By supporting technologies that improve productivity while reducing environmental impact, the 2026 Food Accelerator Network reinforces Europe's commitment to building a smarter, more sustainable, and competitive agrifood sector. The newly selected startups represent not only promising businesses but also the next generation of solutions that could transform how food is produced, processed, and delivered across Europe.

Agriventures Joins SYSARM: Helping Europe’s Farmers
Every farmer already knows how to manage risk day to day — weather, prices, supply chains, you name it. What most don’t have is a way to see how all of those risks connect, and how a decision made today can come back to bite (or help) them two seasons from now. That’s the gap SYSARM is here to close, and Agriventures has just signed on as a core partner to help make it happen. On 27–28 May, our team — represented by Ivaylo Yankov — joined partners from Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Poland in...
