EU Funding for Digital Farming: Open Grants for Agri-Tech Startups in 2026

"Digital transformation is changing the way we grow, manage, and distribute food, making agriculture smarter, more sustainable, and more profitable."

AgriVentures, Digital Farming focus area

Precision agriculture, AI powered analytics, satellite data, robotics, and IoT sensors are reshaping European farming, and they all need somewhere to get built, tested, and scaled. AgriVentures has mapped the current EU funding landscape for digital farming, and several tracks are open to startups and cooperatives right now.

The Funding Landscape, in Six Tracks

AgriVentures groups the live opportunities for agri-tech innovators into six main channels:

  • Horizon Europe, Cluster 6: funding climate smart farming, AI in agriculture, soil health, and agri-data platforms, including partnerships like Agriculture of Data and the Testing and Experimentation Facilities (TEF) for AI in Agri-Food.

  • Cascade Funding: smaller, fast access grants from larger EU projects, designed for startups and SMEs to test and validate innovations quickly.

  • Digital Europe Programme: backing digital infrastructure, cross border platforms, and farm level analytics tools.

  • EIT Food and AgriVentures Test Farms: a real setting to trial innovations with industry stakeholders and mentors.

  • European Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs): one stop shops for testing new technologies and connecting with partners across Europe.

  • Common European Agricultural Data Space: enabling secure, transparent data sharing for precision agriculture and smart farm management.

From Concept to Field, With a Two Track EU Strategy

The EU's approach to digital agriculture runs on two tracks: research and innovation, which develops new technologies and solutions, and deployment and scaling, which pushes proven tools out into farmers' hands. AgriVentures positions its support across both, helping teams identify EU funded digital experiments and innovation calls that match their technology, partner with demonstration farms and testbeds to validate solutions under real agricultural conditions, and integrate tools like satellite analytics, soil monitoring systems, and IoT enabled dashboards once they are ready to scale.

Why It Matters Beyond the Grant

Digital tools are proving their worth in three concrete ways: better resource management that improves sustainability, precision operations that boost productivity, and stronger resilience against climate and market shocks. IoT sensors, AI driven analytics, decision support systems, and blockchain traceability are also reshaping the wider value chain, bringing more transparency to how food is produced, faster and more reliable data flows across supply chains, and lower costs and emissions along the way.

Get Matched to the Right Call, Automatically

Digital farming teams do not have to track all six funding channels manually. By creating a free profile at agriventures.co and selecting Digital Farming as an area of interest, startups, cooperatives, and researchers let AgriVentures' AI Funding Scanner and live database of 500+ agrifood opportunities do the monitoring for them. New calls, deadlines, and guidance land directly in their inbox, so the right opportunity is never missed and no time is lost searching for it.

VerAgro launches a free self-assessment to help farms measure - and improve - their sustainability

"How sustainable is your farm?" It's a question most producers can answer instinctively, but rarely with hard numbers. A new Bulgarian startup wants to change that. VerAgro, a Bulgaria-based agtech startup, has launched a free online self-assessment that gives farms and processors a clear, structured picture of where they stand on sustainability — and what to do next. A 20-minute check-up for your farm The tool works like a health check-up for your operation. Farmers and processors answer 57...

A New Door Is Opening for Bulgarian Farmers and Agri-Innovators - And It's Fully Funded

For years, the biggest barrier between Bulgarian agriculture and Europe's most advanced farms hasn't been ambition. It's been access — to the right rooms, the right people, and the budget to get there. AgriVentures' new Missions program was built to remove exactly that barrier, and it does it in a way few programs in the region ever have: by covering the full cost of getting Bulgarian farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and companies in front of Europe's leading agri-food innovators. If you...

Understanding Biomass Flows in Europe: A €6M Horizon Europe Call Agrifood Founders Shouldn't Miss

A question we've been getting a lot lately, including from our own LinkedIn community, is some version of: "Can my startup actually apply for this, and how?" This time it's about Understanding biomass flows in Europe (HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-05), a Horizon Europe call with a total budget of €6,000,000 that opened on 17 April 2026 and closes on 17 September 2026. It's exactly the kind of opportunity worth breaking down properly, because the honest answer is "yes, but not the way most...

Funding the Future of Food

A Guide to Agrifood Startup Financing in Europe (2026) Europe's agrifood sector is under pressure from every direction: climate volatility, labor shortages, tightening environmental regulation, and a food system still responsible for roughly a third of global emissions. That pressure has turned into one of the most active funding corridors on the continent. Between EU-level research grants, national innovation agencies, dedicated agrifood venture funds, and a growing bench of sector-specific...
