Europe’s agri-food sector is entering a decisive decade.

Rising resource pressures, climate volatility, supply chain instability and shifting consumer expectations are forcing companies, researchers and policymakers to rethink how food systems operate. The linear model of production, consumption and waste is no longer economically or environmentally sustainable.

The question is no longer whether circularity will become central to agri-food systems. The question is who will lead the transition.

On 11 June, Circular Voices Agrifood Talks will bring together startups, researchers, investors, ecosystem builders and policymakers to explore how circular innovation can reshape the future of European agri-food systems.

The event arrives at a critical moment for Bulgaria and the wider region.

Despite significant agricultural potential, many countries in Southeast Europe still struggle to transform biological resources into high-value circular industries. Bulgaria alone generates millions of tonnes of agricultural residual biomass annually, while much of its raw production continues to leave the country without downstream value creation.

At the same time, one of the biggest barriers identified across the ecosystem remains fragmentation between business, science and institutions. Challenges include weak communication across sectors, lack of collaboration between universities and industry, fragmented information and limited practical implementation support.

This is precisely where initiatives like Circular Voices become strategically important.

Circular Voices is not only focused on sustainability narratives. Its real value lies in creating operational bridges between entrepreneurship, research, funding and industry. The future of circular innovation depends less on isolated projects and more on interconnected ecosystems capable of scaling solutions across borders and sectors.

The event agenda reflects this broader ambition.

Discussions will focus on funding opportunities for circular solutions, successful collaboration models, cross-border partnerships and the practical barriers preventing wider adoption of circular innovation in agri-food systems.

The panel discussion, “What is needed to scale circular innovation in agri-food systems?”, addresses some of the most urgent questions facing the sector today:

How do startups move from pilot projects to market adoption? How can researchers commercialize innovation more effectively? What financing mechanisms are still missing? How can ecosystem builders create stronger regional collaboration? What role does consumer awareness play in accelerating circular transitions?

These are not theoretical debates.

Across Europe, circular business models are increasingly becoming linked to competitiveness, resilience and strategic autonomy. Companies capable of valorizing waste streams, improving resource efficiency and integrating bio-based innovation into their supply chains are likely to gain long-term advantages as regulations and markets continue evolving.

For startups, the opportunity is especially significant.

Circular innovation creates entirely new value chains across precision agriculture, food waste valorization, biomaterials, alternative proteins, regenerative agriculture and industrial biotechnology. Yet scaling these solutions requires access not only to capital, but also to strategic partnerships, testing environments, industrial infrastructure and regulatory understanding.

That is why ecosystem-oriented events matter.

Innovation rarely scales in isolation. It scales when researchers meet founders, when investors understand industry realities, when corporates become early adopters and when policymakers engage directly with entrepreneurial ecosystems.

Circular Voices Agrifood Talks aims to create exactly this type of environment.

Beyond presentations and panel discussions, the event creates space for strategic dialogue, partnership development and long-term collaboration between stakeholders working toward more resilient and resource-efficient agri-food systems.

The transition toward circular agriculture and food systems will not happen through a single technology or institution. It will happen through stronger collaboration networks capable of connecting science, entrepreneurship, finance and industry into functioning ecosystems.

And increasingly, the regions that build those ecosystems fastest will define the future competitiveness of Europe’s bioeconomy.

Agriventures Joins SYSARM: Helping Europe’s Farmers

Every farmer already knows how to manage risk day to day — weather, prices, supply chains, you name it. What most don’t have is a way to see how all of those risks connect, and how a decision made today can come back to bite (or help) them two seasons from now. That’s the gap SYSARM is here to close, and Agriventures has just signed on as a core partner to help make it happen. On 27–28 May, our team — represented by Ivaylo Yankov — joined partners from Italy, Romania, Bulgaria and Poland in...

From Data to Impact: Innovation and Digitalisation Reshaping European Agriculture

At Green Transition Forum 6.0 in Sofia, four leading agrifood innovators tackled the hard questions about AI, biotechnology, EU funding gaps, and what it really takes to scale technology from lab to farm. European agriculture is under pressure from every direction — rising input costs, climate instability, tightening sustainability regulations, and a funding landscape that doesn't always match the pace of innovation. On June 4, 2026, at the main stage of Green Transition Forum 6.0 in Sofia,...
