Kicking Off SYSARM: Systems Thinking for Agricultural Risk Management in a Changing World

We are proud to announce that Agriventures is part of the consortium of the newly launched SYSARM project, a timely European initiative responding to the growing global challenges affecting agriculture and food systems.
At a time when climate shocks, geopolitical instability, supply chain disruptions, and economic uncertainty are reshaping the agri-food landscape, SYSARM aims to equip professionals with the skills needed not just to react—but to anticipate, adapt, and build resilience.
The project officially launched on 1 March, setting in motion a collaborative effort to rethink how agricultural knowledge and risk management are taught and applied across Europe.
Kick-off Meeting – 20 April
The official kick-off meeting will take place on 20 April, bringing together all partners to align on the project’s vision, tools, and next steps. This marks the true operational start of SYSARM, where ideas begin transforming into concrete solutions.
Why SYSARM Matters Now
Agriculture today sits at the intersection of multiple crises and transitions:
Increasing climate variability and extreme weather events
Rising pressure for sustainable and low-carbon production
Rapid digitalisation and technological change
Ongoing market and geopolitical instability
Yet, the sector’s workforce often lacks access to modern, flexible, and forward-looking training. SYSARM addresses this gap by introducing a systems thinking approach to agricultural risk management, empowering learners to understand complex interdependencies and make strategic decisions.
What SYSARM Will Deliver
The project will develop a new generation of learning tools designed for real-world impact:
A MOOC on systems-based agricultural risk management
Simulation-based learning environments reflecting real-life challenges
A Trainer Toolbox for educators and institutions
Micro-credentials aligned with EU frameworks
Practical tools for lifelong learning and skills recognition
These outputs aim to build green skills, transversal competences, and resilience, ensuring that learners are prepared for the complexity of modern agri-food systems.
A Strong European Partnership
SYSARM brings together 9 partners from 4 European countries, combining expertise in education, sustainability, innovation, and digital technologies.
As a key partner, Agriventures contributes its expertise in agri-policy, entrepreneurship, and sustainability. The organisation will play an important role in policy engagement and governance integration, helping ensure that project results translate into real systemic impact.
The project is coordinated by Cosvitec, leading the overall implementation, quality assurance, and alignment with European frameworks and the Pact for Skills.

For Agriventures, participation in SYSARM is not an isolated initiative, but part of a broader mission: bridging innovation with real agricultural practice, reducing information asymmetry, and accelerating the adoption of solutions that already work.
Agriventures focuses on supporting agrifood startups and innovation, and access to European funding for agriculture, while also helping entrepreneurs navigate the complex landscape of startup financing, venture capital, and research commercialization.
By strengthening connections between startups, research institutions, investors, and farmers, Agriventures contributes to building a stronger agricultural innovation ecosystem that can accelerate the transition toward sustainable agriculture and resilient food systems.
Through knowledge sharing, events, and ecosystem building, Agriventures helps ensure that promising agritech innovations can scale and reach farmers, food producers, and global markets.
