Molten Ventures Secures £175 Million First Close for New Growth Fund

Molten Ventures has secured £175 million in the first close of its new Growth Fund, backed by a £75 million cornerstone commitment from the British Business Bank. The fund targets a final size of £350 million and will provide growth capital to high-potential technology companies across the UK and Europe.
The new fund represents another step in Molten Ventures' strategy of providing capital to technology companies beyond the early stages of venture development.
Of the £175 million secured at first close, the British Business Bank has committed £75 million, while Molten Ventures has contributed the remaining £100 million. The venture capital firm plans to raise additional capital toward a final fund target of £350 million.
The Growth Fund will focus on Series B and later-stage investments, targeting companies that have demonstrated significant growth potential and are ready to scale internationally.
Addressing Europe's growth capital gap
One of the central ideas behind the new fund is the funding gap faced by European technology companies as they move from early-stage development into scale-up.
Startups can often attract seed and early venture capital to develop their products and reach initial customers. However, the capital requirements become substantially larger when companies begin expanding internationally, increasing production, building teams and competing in global markets.
Molten Ventures believes there is an opportunity to provide more capital at precisely this stage.
The Growth Fund will give Molten greater capacity to participate in larger Series B+ rounds and build meaningful ownership positions in companies where it has high conviction.
According to the firm, the strategy is based on more than 40 growth investments and over £700 million invested in Series B and later-stage companies during the past decade.
Focus on deep tech and high-growth sectors
The fund will invest across several technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, space technology, fintech, quantum computing, deeptech and hardware.
This sector focus reflects the increasing importance of technologies that require significant capital and longer development cycles.
Deeptech and hardware companies, for example, often need substantial investment before reaching commercial scale. Space and quantum technologies can require even longer development timelines, while AI companies may need significant capital to build infrastructure, develop products and expand internationally.
For European technology companies, access to growth-stage funding can therefore be an important factor in determining whether a promising startup becomes a global business.
Molten's new vehicle is designed specifically to provide this additional capital.
British Business Bank backs the fund
The £75 million commitment from the British Business Bank is particularly significant because it represents a major institutional endorsement of the Growth Fund.
The British Business Bank has worked with Molten Ventures for several years. It has been an investor in Molten's listed platform since 2018 and has also co-invested alongside the firm in companies including SatVu, IMU Biosciences, Thought Machine and Paragraf.
The bank said its investment reflects an effort to create deeper pools of late-stage capital for breakthrough technologies and help UK technology companies scale faster.
For the wider European venture capital ecosystem, institutional commitments such as this can play an important role in increasing the amount of capital available to growth-stage companies.
From venture capital to global scale
Molten Ventures' new fund is also part of a broader strategy to increase the amount of third-party capital managed by the firm.
Rather than relying solely on its listed balance sheet, Molten is building dedicated investment vehicles that can bring additional institutional capital into venture and growth investments.
The company says its existing operational, governance and reporting infrastructure provides a platform for deploying this capital at scale.
Molten currently manages more than £2 billion in assets under management across the group. Since 2016, it says it has deployed more than £1 billion of capital and generated more than £800 million in investment proceeds.
The new Growth Fund is intended to add further capacity to this platform.
Why the fund matters for European technology
The launch comes amid growing interest in European technology companies with global ambitions.
Europe has developed a strong pipeline of startups across AI, biotechnology, climate technology, deeptech, quantum computing and other emerging sectors. However, building global companies requires more than early-stage innovation. Founders need access to substantial growth capital at the point where they move from product-market fit toward international expansion.
Molten's strategy is designed around this transition.
For entrepreneurs, the availability of dedicated Series B+ capital can provide greater flexibility when raising larger rounds. For institutional investors, the fund offers exposure to a portfolio of later-stage technology businesses through an established European venture capital platform.
The final target of £350 million would significantly expand Molten's capacity to invest in European scale-ups.
The fund therefore illustrates a broader trend in the European investment ecosystem: as more startups mature beyond the early stages, the need for specialised growth capital is becoming increasingly important.
For companies working in areas such as deeptech, AI, biotech, hardware and other capital-intensive technologies, the availability of this type of funding could be critical to turning European innovation into globally competitive businesses.

Where Agrifood Biotech and Research Funding Is Actually Going in 2026
Basic research doesn't fund itself, and in agrifood, the gap between a promising lab result and a fundable project often comes down to knowing which of a dozen overlapping EU programmes to approach first. Food safety science, biotech platforms, and multi-country research consortia each follow their own funding logic, and 2026 has brought fresh calls across all three. A New Door Is Opening for Bulgarian Farmers and Agri-Innovators - And It's Fully Funded
For years, the biggest barrier between Bulgarian agriculture and Europe's most advanced farms hasn't been ambition. It's been access — to the right rooms, the right people, and the budget to get there. AgriVentures' new Missions program was built to remove exactly that barrier, and it does it in a way few programs in the region ever have: by covering the full cost of getting Bulgarian farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and companies in front of Europe's leading agri-food innovators. If you...
