This Week in AgriFood: What the Latest Funding and M&A News Actually Signals

Industry news moves fast, and it's easy to read a headline about a Series B or an acquisition without registering what it means for the funding and investment landscape underneath it. Here's a roundup of recent agrifood developments, reported by AgFunderNews, organized by what they actually signal for founders and investors across our core focus areas.
Digital Farming: Precision Data Keeps Attracting Capital
TerraBlaster raised a $12.5 million seed round to commercialize real-time NPK soil mapping at tractor speed, using technology first deployed on the Mars rover to determine nutrient levels in soil as a tractor moves across a field. Cofounder and CEO Jorge Heraud frames it as part of a shift toward real-time measurement enabling precise fertilization, rather than periodic lab testing. CropX, meanwhile, made its biggest acquisition yet by buying NIR spectroscopy firm SCIO, pushing toward an annual recurring revenue near $20 million with CEO Tomer Tzach targeting profitability in 2027. And Solinftec is set to launch agricultural robotics' first Amazon parts store as its Solix acreage grows fifteen-fold in the US, a sign that ag robotics is starting to build the kind of distribution infrastructure usually associated with mature equipment categories. Robotics funding across the sector is following the same trajectory, reaching close to £190 million in 2026 according to UKTN, with Cambridge emerging as a hub.
For founders building precision measurement or robotics tools, the pattern across all three stories is the same: investors are rewarding real-time, field-level data over periodic or lab-based alternatives.
Livestock and Food Safety: Managing Risk in Real Time
Livestock management app Breedr raised a $27 million Series B led by Partech's impact arm, arriving alongside record-low cattle herd sizes and rising beef prices for both producers and consumers, a combination that raises the value of better herd-level decision-making tools. On the disease-management side, Alveo and AgriNerds have teamed up on smarter bird flu surveillance, with AgriNerds framing the goal as moving poultry operations "past reactive disease management to adopt a proactive, risk-informed approach." Both stories point to the same underlying shift: livestock funding is increasingly rewarding tools that catch problems before they become losses, not after.
Circular Agrifood & ESG: Waste Streams Are Becoming Revenue Lines
Plantd has converted a construction waste problem into a new revenue line with a biochar product, moving the company a step closer to a fully closed-loop manufacturing process for its alternative construction materials, a direct example of circular economy thinking generating a saleable product rather than just an environmental compliance line item. Century-old Keystone Cooperative, representing 20,000 farmers, has joined Alloy Partners' venture studio focused on animal, human, and planetary health, bringing what the cooperative describes as the real-world, practical side of the farmer into early-stage venture building. Separately, natural capital is gaining what one report calls "increasing recognition" from institutional investors, with two in five institutional asset owners expecting to make their first natural capital allocation within five years, a meaningful signal for anyone building carbon farming or biodiversity-linked financial products.
Innovative Food & Biotech: A Mixed but Active Quarter
UPSIDE Foods terminated its $50 million bid for Believer Meats' US cultivated meat facility, though it says it "remains interested" in the site, a reminder that consolidation in cultivated meat is still shaking out unevenly even as underlying interest in the category persists. On the fermentation side, dsm-firmenich is taking its Protopia yeast protein to industrial scale, targeting fishmeal and whey replacement markets, with potential to generate a new revenue stream for Indian ethanol producers sitting on underutilized production capacity. And Pairwise reports a "dramatic uptick" in CRISPR licensing activity as gene editing moves beyond row crops into new categories, with COO Ian Miller noting the appeal of one-stop licensing over negotiating multiple separate agreements.
Why This Matters for AgriVentures Members
None of these stories are EU grant calls, but all of them shape the investment climate our members are raising into. A founder pitching soil sensing technology has a stronger case citing TerraBlaster's raise. A cooperative exploring circular byproducts has a sharper pitch after Plantd's biochar line. AgriVentures tracks both sides of the equation, the public funding calls in our Updates hub and the broader industry signals that shape how those calls, and private investors, evaluate applications.
Staying current on both is exactly what a membership is built for. Starter, at €8.90 a month, includes the funding database, a newsletter, and activity updates. Standard, our most popular plan at €12.90 a month, adds a favorites list, tailored newsletters, and interest-based filtering. Tailored, at €49.90 a month, brings unlimited matching notifications. Business, at €199.90 a month, adds monthly one-on-one expert support, matchmaking, and event invitations.
Every plan starts with a 7 day free trial.

Where Agrifood Biotech and Research Funding Is Actually Going in 2026
Basic research doesn't fund itself, and in agrifood, the gap between a promising lab result and a fundable project often comes down to knowing which of a dozen overlapping EU programmes to approach first. Food safety science, biotech platforms, and multi-country research consortia each follow their own funding logic, and 2026 has brought fresh calls across all three. Two Live Examples Worth Studying Safe-Agri, one of AgriVentures' active projects, is reinforcing the security assessment...

VerAgro launches a free self-assessment to help farms measure - and improve - their sustainability
"How sustainable is your farm?" It's a question most producers can answer instinctively, but rarely with hard numbers. A new Bulgarian startup wants to change that. VerAgro, a Bulgaria-based agtech startup, has launched a free online self-assessment that gives farms and processors a clear, structured picture of where they stand on sustainability — and what to do next. A 20-minute check-up for your farm The tool works like a health check-up for your operation. Farmers and processors answer 57...

A New Door Is Opening for Bulgarian Farmers and Agri-Innovators - And It's Fully Funded
For years, the biggest barrier between Bulgarian agriculture and Europe's most advanced farms hasn't been ambition. It's been access — to the right rooms, the right people, and the budget to get there. AgriVentures' new Missions program was built to remove exactly that barrier, and it does it in a way few programs in the region ever have: by covering the full cost of getting Bulgarian farmers, entrepreneurs, scientists, and companies in front of Europe's leading agri-food innovators. If you...

Understanding Biomass Flows in Europe: A €6M Horizon Europe Call Agrifood Founders Shouldn't Miss
A question we've been getting a lot lately, including from our own LinkedIn community, is some version of: "Can my startup actually apply for this, and how?" This time it's about Understanding biomass flows in Europe (HORIZON-CL6-2026-01-CIRCBIO-05), a Horizon Europe call with a total budget of €6,000,000 that opened on 17 April 2026 and closes on 17 September 2026. It's exactly the kind of opportunity worth breaking down properly, because the honest answer is "yes, but not the way most...
